Is there a need for transcription? (YES!)

You might hear that transcription does not really make a difference and is a dying career, but that could not be further from the truth.

Transcription has been around for thousands of years. When something is this established, it doesn't die out; it just gets improved upon. This is why now we have so many opportunities to work from home in this line of work because of the improvements and changes made over time.

Transcription has become vital to every area of our lives. Without transcription, we would lose so much precious and important information. Transcription allows us to keep records of meetings, phone calls, medical notes, and so much more. But what does transcription help us with?

Allows for preserving the accuracy of what was discussed

Allows participating parties to fully focus on their discussion and tasks at hand without worrying about what information might be lost

Allows for meetings and consults to be more productive and efficient

Allows us to follow up as needed

Allows for all the different dialects in our world to be understood and much more

So let's break this down a little more.

What types of transcription are there?

There are three main categories of transcription:

Medical

Legal

General

Each type of transcription conforms to its own style and format.

While Medical and Legal transcription is very specific to their own area, General Transcription consists of a variety of interesting transcripts, such as:

  • Phone Calls
  • Voice Mails
  • Interviews
  • Focus Groups
  • Television
  • Movies
  • Corporate
  • Financial
  • Academic

And the list goes on... We are going to give you a snapshot of each of these types of transcription. It will help you to understand what will be expected of you in different situations and give you a better feel for what type of transcription you may want to concentrate on later.
